Pakistan will name their new coach on Monday with former Australia paceman Geoff Lawson tipped to land the role.

UK: Lawson, 49, and fellow Aussies Dav Whatmore - the former Sri Lanka and Bangladesh coach - and Richard Done had talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Done has been ruled out by PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf, who said: "We now have to choose among Lawson and Whatmore."

Pakistan have been looking for a new coach since Bob Woolmer died during the World Cup in March in the Caribbean.

Whoever the PCB goes for will have one of the most high-profile and challenging jobs in the game.

The national side has had eight different coaches in the past 11 years and struggled to achieve consistency in Test and one-day cricket.

Whatmore, 53, led Sri Lanka to World Cup glory in 1996, and was also interviewed for the India coach post.

Former New South Wales paceman Done, 51, succeeded Bob Woolmer as the ICC's high performance manager in 2004 after Woolmer took the Pakistan job.

But the duo appear to have lost out to Lawson, who took 180 wickets in 46 Tests during the 1980s and has coaching experience with state side New South Wales.
