A
felicitation ceremony for the renowned off spinner Muththaiah
Muralithara who set a world record by taking 710 wickets
was held in the parliament today (10).
Present
Sri Lanka team as well as the team that won the World Cup
in 1996 also participated in the felicitation ceremony.
Addressing
the gathering, the Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara said that
Muralitharan brought an immense honor to the country.
The
Opposition Leader, the Ministers and the Government and
the opposition MPs rallied to congratulate the cricketers.
They were seated on a special platform where the guests
of the Speaker sit and a grand lunch followed.
This
is the first time in Sri Lanka parliamentary history the
sportsmen were called for such a felicitation.
