Clashes continue in the North; army says nine terrorists killed

Sri Lanka Army sources claim that at least nine terrorists were killed as the security forces continued its counter terrorist offensives in the island's North this morning (January 7).

On the Muhamalai front in the Jaffna defence, troops attacked a group of terrorists engaged in construction of bunkers around 6.50.a.m. Ground troops have claimed that seven terrorists were killed and three bunkers destroyed in this attack. During the subsequent search, troops have found six hand grenades and one T-56 riffle.

On the Wanni defence, army skirmished with LTTE at two separate incidents occurred at Navatkulama and Jankapura, East of Omanthai this morning. At Navatkulma, troops confronted with a group of LTTE cadres around 8.a.m. According to the ground sources one LTTE cadre was killed in this incident. Meanwhile, troops deployed in the North of Janakapura area, attacked a group of LTTE infiltrators detected this morning. Ground troops have said that one terrorist was killed in the incident.

On the Mannar front, troops engaged in search operation in the Shanthipuram area have recovered nine boxes containing 4.3 Kg of C4 high explosives around 2.30a.m.
