The
people of Sri Lanka and the JVP are satisfied that the
treacherous pseudo ceasefire agreement, compiled by Norway
and signed on 22.02.2002 by then Prime Minister Ranil
Wickremasinghe and leader of tiger organization Velupillai
Prabakaran was abrogated after it was allowed to be in
force for more than five years states a press release
issued by the Political Bureau of the JVP.
The
press release further states:
“This
pseudo agreement divided the country. An illegal de facto
state was established. The illegal agreement allowed the
establishment of a pseudo border check point and pseudo
taxes were levied.
Even
before the relevant parties signed the treacherous agreement
the JVP exposed its menace to the people. Our group of
Parliamentarians revealed the perils of this agreement
on 19th February, 2002. The then ministers of the UNP
government lied to the Parliament to conceal the conspiracy
of signing this agreement. Since 22nd February, 2002,
the day this treacherous agreement was signed, the people
in this country witnessed only victories achieved by separatist
terrorism and defeats to the Motherland. It was only through
this agreement that tiger terrorists were able to eliminate
the officers of intelligence services, carry out large
scale murders of democratic Tamil political leaders, abduct
children for terrorist activities, establish power bases
in strategically important places such as Sampur and gain
international recognition. It is during this period when
the traitorous CFA was in force that tiger terrorists
assassinated Mr. Luxman Kadirgamar, one of the best foreign
ministers this country has ever had, carried out illegal
propaganda using the sophisticated transmitting equipment
donated by Ranil Wickremasinghe and received official
diplomatic status by meeting foreign diplomats including
officials from the UNO.
The
so-called military power of this so-called de facto state
has been severely pounded by the operations carried out
by heroic Security Forces. The people in this country
are now witnessing the fall of the so-called separate
state of ‘Tamil elam’ that was being jointly
built by local and foreign reactionary forces together
with tiger organization. Security Forces have already
liberated the East. Operations to liberate Wanni are being
carried out successfully. We demand that the government
should not take any measures to weaken these operations.
We also demand that the government stops all activities
of NGOs that act as cats paws to directly or indirectly
support the LTTE and that of those individuals that act
against the country hiding behind the UNO.
When
we criticized the government for not abrogating the CFA,
several in the government said “it is only a corpse
and it was not necessary to abrogate it.” This late
decision, however, indicates the view held by those in
the government were not correct. What we continuously
emphasized was if the traitorous agreement was allowed
to exist the victories achieved by Security Forces could
be reversed and if by any chance the agreement was made
effective again tiger terrorists could march back to “Sampur.”
We wanted to emphasize that correct political decisions
should be taken to consolidate military gains. The government
that ignored our view has been made to accept that now.
It
is with this agreement that the sovereign right of taking
decisions regarding the national question in Sri Lanka
internally was violated. It is this agreement that allowed
international forces to officially intervene in the national
question. It is also this agreement that allowed a group
of foreigners calling themselves a ‘monitory mission’
to express views against the country. As such, this agreement
was instrumental in betraying the sovereignty of Sri Lanka.
Hence, officially withdrawing from the agreement is a
great step towards regaining sovereignty of the country.
What
the government should do now is to take measures to withdraw
from all contradictory practices. Tiger organization should
be declared a banned organization in Sri Lanka immediately.
The government should change its corrupt, squandering
and swindling administration. Masses burdened by high
cost of living should not be forced to make sacrifices
without those in the government setting examples. Only
then the victories of the Security Forces over tiger terrorism
would become fully meaningful to the Nation. All patriotic
forces should rally now with new vigour to win over other
victories just as they were able to get the traitorous
agreement abrogated. The patriotic forces should unite
and come forward with one voice to completely defeat separatist
tiger terrorism, establish peace, democracy and good governance
in the country, achieve massive economic development and
assure equality to all citizens. Being able to nullify
P-TOMS, de-merge the East from the North and now being
able to get the traitorous CFA abrogated indicate that
there is no victory that the patriotic forces could not
achieve. Hence, we call upon all patriotic and progressive
forces to rally with confidence and determination to bring
more victories to the Nation and the Motherland.
