Troops advanced into LTTE defences during an offensive operation this morning (January 29) and overran LTTE dominated Viyattankulama area, killing ten terrorists', security sources said.
Ten LTTE bunkers were also destroyed into rubbles while military troops marched forward, assisted with heavy artillery and armour tank fire, sources said.
Similarly, twelve terrorists were confirmed killed when troops seized control over six LTTE bunker defences at general area Pallaikkuli, Mannar. According to military sources, five LTTE bodies were also recovered during subsequent search operations conducted in the area.
Military reports stated that, three claymore mines, 70x 60mm mortar bombs, a T-56 assault riffle and ammunitions were further recovered in the search operations.
