12 terrorists killed, 05 wounded in clashes at Wanni and Northern defences

At least 12 terrorists were killed and o5 wounded in clashes erupted along the Wanni and Northern defences during past 24 hours security reports reveal. The latest counted when troops killed a terrorist while injuring another this morning (January 1) at general area Navathkulama, Vavuniya, at 8a.m.

On Monday(31) troops launched an attack at identified LTTE bunker positions ahead of Muhamalai defences killing at least three terrorists, security sources said. Advancing troops have engaged heavy mortar and artillery fire, SLA sources said. Troops have also destroyed an LTTE mine field while forcing into the non-liberated zone ahead of Muhamalai in Jaffna.

Separately, security forces said, three terrorists were killed in an ambush laid at along the defences ahead of Muhamalai yesterday at 12.30a.m.

In search and clearing operations, conducted on Monday (31) at general area Vilathikulama and Periyathampanai in Vavuniya, troops removed 06 x anti personnel (AP) mines, military sources report. Meanwhile, a soldier was injured when an LTTE laid mine exploded during a search operation at general area Kurisuddakulama. The wounded soldier was evacuated to general hospital at Anuradhapura, SLA sources said.

According to security sources, three terrorists were killed in clashes at general area Pokkaravani. No damages were caused to own troops, the sources said.

Meanwhile, military said, two soldiers were killed while two others sustained injuries when troops clashed with a group of terrorists at Ethawetunuwewa in Welioya, yesterday. In a separate incident at general area Ethawetunuwewa, troops killed two terrorists, at 6p.m, security sources report.

According to military sources, 04 LTTE terrorists were seriously injured during exchange of gunfire and mortar attacks at general area Kokkuthuduwal with LTTE, at 11.45p.m. A soldier succumbed to injuries during the confrontation, security sources said.
