According to the reports received, 42 terrorists were killed while 12 others were injured in confrontations took place in Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar, Welioya battlefronts yesterday (January 27). Two security forces personnel made their supreme sacrifice while another 16 received injuries in yesterday's attacks, report further said.
In the Jaffna theatre of battle, army snipers deployed at Muhamalai gunned down a terrorist ahead of the Forward Defence Line around 8.55 a.m.
Meanwhile, two army soldiers received injuries due to an explosion of anti-personnel mine in Killay. One of the victims was succumbed to his injuries while undergoing medical treatment. In another confrontation took place at Muhamalai one soldier sustained injuries.
In the Vanni theatre of battle, Sri Lanka army continued its military operations in non-liberated areas in Vavuniaya, Mannar and Welioya areas causing heavy damages to the enemy.
In the Vavuniya front, four LTTE terrorists were killed in a confrontation took place at 10.25 in general area Mullikulam.
In Vilathikulam Troops triggered off a claymore mine targeting an LTTE movement at 10.45 a.m. Ground troops confirmed six LTTE terrorists were killed while two others injured due to the explosion. One soldier was also sustained injuries in the incident.
Troops launched an observed fire targeting an LTTE movement at 11.15 a.m in general area Kallikulam. Ground sources confirmed three terrorists were killed and two others injured due to this attack.
Meanwhile, LTTE terrorists fired indiscriminate mortar barrage targeting security forces personnel around 12.10 p.m at general area Pantrichurichan. LTTE transmission confirmed that ten LTTE cadres were killed due to the heavy retaliation made by the troops.
In same general area, one soldier was killed and another three received injuries due to an explosion of booby trap while conducting route clearing operation at Pantrichurichan at 11.30 a.m.
In Periyapantrichurichchan, three terrorists were killed when the troops ambushed an LTTE moment around 4.45 p.m.
Meanwhile, three army soldiers sustained injuries due to two separate LTTE mortar attacks around 12.10 p.m and 4.20 p.m in general area Periyapantrichurichchan.
In the Mannar front, troops conducting search operations at general area Kattupalliya recovered following items.

Meanwhile, three terrorists were reported killed and two wounded following a SLA artillery attack at Chettikulam, Pallaikulli and Oliwattathivu general areas, security sources said. According to reports, three 15 kg weighing land mines and two improvised explosive devises were recovered by troops during a search operation conducted at Parappakandal. A SLA soldier was wounded in an LTTE mortar attack at general area Olwattataithivu, while four terrorists were reported killed when troops launched attacks at an LTTE bunker line at Vannankulama, reports stated.
Separately, at the Welioya battle front troops ambushed an LTTE movement killing three terrorists and recovering a dog tag (No: 3785), 02 x T -56 magazines, 40 x 7.62x39 mm ammunitions, 08 x anti personnel (AP) mines, yesterday at 10.25.a.m. According to military sources, three soldiers were wounded during the confrontation and admitted to general hospital at Padaviya. Three other terrorists were killed in separate clashes at Janakapura and Kiriibbanwewa defences, reports further stated.
In similar clashes between LTTE and security forces at Andankulama defences troops said that, a terrorist was killed and many wounded. Reports also claimed that a soldier sustained injuries during a AP mine explosion east of Janakapura, Welioya.
At Kokkuthuduvai a soldier was reported wounded in an AP mine explosion. Troops also said that over 200 AP mines were cleared off from the Kokkuthuduva defence lines yesterday.
At Trincomalee, troops while conducting a search operation at general area Manirasakulama, recovered a claymore mine weighing 1.5kgs. The mine was found hidden under a stone, security sources said. Meanwhile, Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel shot dead an LTTE operative in Mankadu, Batticaloa while attempting to hurl a hand grenade at the personnel on duty. Later two hand grenades were recovered along with the slain LTTE operative, security sources said.
