Scores of LTTE flee battle lines: 16 killed in fresh clashes- Wanni

Sixteen terrorists have been killed and eleven wounded in fighting between LTTE and security forces at the tensed Wanni front today (January 26), military said.

Two terrorists were killed at general area Vilathikulama, when troops intercepted an LTTE foot movement, at 12.30.p.m, reports stated.

Earlier, troops hit an identified LTTE mortar training base North of Palamoddai, with artillery fire at 11.30.a.m. According to Wanni ground sources, intercepted enemy communication has revealed that six terrorists were killed and nine others injured during the attack.

In general area Madhu south, SLA soldiers advanced ahead of LTTE defences and directed attacks at a tractor transferring terrorists killing six and injuring two others at 3.p.m, security sources confirmed.

The military said, two other terrorists were also killed in a similar attack in general area East of Madhu, at 3.30.p.m. In the latest fighting at the Wanni front, troops report citing intercepted LTTE communication that scores of terrorists were fleeing further into Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu districts, following costly defeats at the hands of security forces.

There are also unconfirmed reports of people been forced to move into perimeters of LTTE "high security zones" or "no-go" areas by the outfit, intensifying human suffering in non-liberated districts of Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu, defence sources said.
