Political parties submitted 38 nominations and independent groups filed 23 while nine were rejected at the closure of the nomination calling for the elections of Baticaloa Municipal Council and eight Pradeshiya Sabhas that would be held on March 10.
Four political parties including United People's Freedom Alliance and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and three independent groups contest for Batticaloa Municipal Council.
Following are the accepted number of nominations for the other Pradeshiya Sabhas:
Eravurpaththu - 10
Koralepaththu - 09
Koralepaththu North - 05
Manumun North Eruwil Paththu - 04
Manmunpaththu - 08
Manmunpaththu West - 04
Manmunpaththu Northwest - 03
Porathivupaththu - 02
Seven political parties have submitted 30 nominations. With the 22 independent groups, the entire number of candidates contesting is 831.
