22 LTTE terrorists killed in yesterday's clashes - Jaffna and Wanni

According to the military reports received from the Jaffna and Wanni defences in the Island's northern part indicated that 22 LTTE terrorists were killed during the clashes erupted between SL Army and terrorists yesterday, January 23.

On the Jaffna Theatre of battle, troops manned in Kilaly frontline launched a pre-down attack killing two LTTE terrorists around 7.25 p.m yesterday. An LTTE bunker was also destroyed, ground troops confirmed. Meanwhile, army snipers deployed in Kilaly front gunned down two LTTE terrorists ahead of defence line at general area Ponnar at 4.25 p.m, report said.

Separately, army snipers deployed at Muhamalai front gunned down an LTTE terrorist ahead of defence line at 4.25 p.m, ground sources confirmed.

On the Wanni theatre of battle, SL army continued attacks at the terrorists' defences on the Vavuniya, Mannar areas.

On the Vavuniya front, two soldiers received injuries due to LTTE mortar fire took place at 11.40 a.m at general area Periyapandisurichchan while another soldier on duty at Vilathikulam also received injuries due to LTTE mortar fire at 9.10 a.m yesterday.

At Kallikulam, troops launched an attack targeting a group of LTTE terrorists at 1.05 p.m and by intercepting LTTE radio transmission, it is revealed an LTTE terrorist was killed and few others received injuries due to this attack.

Meanwhile, troops ambushed a group of LTTE terrorists at general area Kokkuthuduvai at 10.25 a.m today. Ground troops confirmed four LTTE terrorists were killed due to the attack. One soldier also received injuries in this incident.

At Andankulam, troops attacked at LTTE bunker and killed one LTTE terrorist at 2.50 p.m yesterday. Three anti personnel mines were also unearthed from the same area, troops confirmed.

In a similar incident took place at general area Kookuthuduwai, four LTTE terrorists were killed at 12.25 p.m ground troops confirmed. One soldier was also injured due to anti-personnel mine explosion.

In the same area, troops ambushed a group of LTTE terrorists at 12.10 p.m yesterday. Ground troops confirmed two terrorists were killed due to the attack.

In the Mannar front, troops destroyed two LTTE bunkers equipped with artillery rounds, RPG bombs and small arms located at west of Giant tank area at 11.00 a.m yesterday. Ground troops confirmed three LTTE terrorists were killed in this incident.

In a separate incident took place at Wilgamwehera in the Trincomalee area at10.00 p.m yesterday. One soldier was killed in this confrontation defence sources said. In a subsequent search operation troops uncovered a slain body of LTTE cadre along with a T-56 riffle military report further said.
