Army claims 23 LTTE terrorists killed in clashes - Jaffna and Wanni defences

Military reports received from Jaffna and Wanni Defences in the Island's North indicated that 23 LTTE terrorists were killed during several clashes erupted yesterday (January 22).

In the Jaffna Theater of battle, troops manned in Muhamalai front fired Rocket Propelled Grenades targeting the LTTE bunker line at 9.30 p.m. Ground troops confirmed 4 LTTE terrorists were killed due to this attack.

Meanwhile, army snipers deployed at Muhamalai front gunned down a terrorist around 8.20 a.m 350 m ahead of Forward Defences.

In Kilaly front, two army soldiers sustained injuries due to an explosion of terrorist's booby trap at 12.35 p.m. and casualties were evacuated to Palaly hospital.

On the Wanni theatre of battle, SL army continued its multi pronged attack at the terrorists' defences on the Vavuniya and Mannar.

In Vavuniya front, army snipers gunned down an LTTE terrorists around 1.55 p.m ground sources said. Meanwhile, 3 LTTE terrorists were killed in a separate confrontation erupted at 6.25 a.m at Kallikulam.

By intercepting the LTTE communication channels, it is revealed that terrorists suffered heavy damages in a separate confrontation took place at Pendipariyasurichchan around 6 a.m yesterday.

Troops engaged in de-mining operations in Vavuniya front have removed 115 anti-personnel mines at Vilathikulam, military reports said. Meanwhile, 2 army soldiers were received injuries due to LTTE mortar fire at 12 noon in North of Vilathikulam.

In Mannar front, in a pre-down attack launched by the troops have destroyed 7 LTTE bunkers at Pallikkuli yesterday. Ground troops said the attack was launched at 11.00 a.m and 10 LTTE terrorists were killed during this attack. One soldier was also killed while another received injuries in this incident.

Two LTTE terrorists were killed when the troops fired Rocket Propeller Grenades targeting a LTTE movement at 4.30 p.m at Parappakandal, ground troops said. Meanwhile, 2 LTTE terrorists were gunned down by the army snipers deployed at Karampaikulam.

Meanwhile, one soldier was killed due to an explosion of LTTE's booby trap while engaged in clearing operation at Vannakulam around 4.00 p.m yesterday.
