Steps have been taken by the Transport Ministry to computerize all deports belonging to the Central Transport Board as part of the effort to improve management efficiency. The technological assistance for this project is being provided by the Moratuwa University, sources said.
Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Deputy Transport Minister has said that the pilot project in this regard has already been launched in Gampaha District depots. He said that the Ministry decided to introduce new technology to enhance efficiency in administrative and management affairs. Currently the CTB with its fleet of 5000 buses fulfils only 20-25% of the country's passenger transport needs, but Alagiyawanna pledged that this would be upped to 40% by next year.
