Sri Lanka Army claimed that 19 terrorists were killed and many others were injured in the clashes occurred along the Wanni and Jaffna defences yesterday (January 15). Also, three soldiers were killed and 3 others suffered injuries in the same clashes.
In the Jaffna theatre of battle, troops engaged terrorists' locations on all three battle fronts along the Jaffna Forward Defence Line (FDL).
On the Kilaly front, troops engaged terrorist bunkers around 10.35, last morning. Ground troops confirmed that three terrorists were killed and a bunker destroyed in the incident.
On the Muhamalai front, troops attacked terrorists' positions around 5.30.a.m . Ground troops confirmed that two terrorists were either killed or wounded. Meanwhile, on the same front one soldier suffered injuries due to an anti personal mine explosion last morning. The injured was admitted to Palaly base hospital.
On the Nagarkovil front, army claimed that one LTTE bunker was destroyed in an attack launched around 5.45.p.m. One soldier suffered injuries and terrorists casualties are not known in the incident.
In the Wanni theatre of battle, the clashes were reported on the Vavuniya and Welioya fronts only.
On the Vavuniya front, troops engaged small arms at a group of terrorists detected in the Navatkulama area around 5.p.m. Ground troops confirmed that one terrorist was killed in the incident.
In a similar incident at Kallikulama troops gunned down one more terrorists detected ahead of the own defence around 2.45.p.m.
At Umayaratuwarankulam another terrorists was killed by the troops in clash occurred around 8.30.a.m.
At Periyapantrichurichchan, troops attacked an LTTE bunker around 2.50.p.m. Ground sources confirmed that 4 terrorists were killed and three T-56 riffles captured in the incident. Also, one soldier was killed in the same incident.
At Vilathikulama, troops confirmed that another terrorist was killed around 5.p.m.
On the Welioya front, troops clashed with LTTE at several locations in the Jankapura and Kokkuthuduvai areas. According to the military reports 5 terrorists were killed and three others wounded in the clashes. Also, two soldiers were killed and one injured in these clashes.
