C-4 high explosives recovered near Hindu Kovil- Modara

Navy personnel acting on civilian information averted a possible tragedy in the eve of 'Thai Pongal' Hindu festival, yesterday (January 14) evening when troop recovered C-4 high explosives weighing over 8kgs' at Modara, a suburb in Colombo.

According to Navy sources, four parcels of explosives, two hand grenades and steel ball bearings weighing 3.75kg were recovered, by a navy foot patrol near the Kali Amman Kovil at Modara, around 6.p.m.

An immediate cordon and search operation was carried out by the Navy with the assistance of the Modara Police and the parcels were cleared by the Navy's Bomb disposal team averting a major catastrophe, Navy sources further added.
