Nine terrorists were killed in separate
clashes at Wanni and Northern defences yesterday (January
12), security sources said. Two SLA soldiers were also killed
while, three others sustained wounds, military sources report.
Following
are incidents separately reported from Jaffna, Mannar, Vavuniya,
Welioya and Batticaloa Districts.
Jaffna:
A terrorist was reported killed in skirmishes between troops
and LTTE yesterday (January 12) ahead of Muhamalai defences,
Jaffna military sources said.
A
soldier injured during the confrontations was admitted to
military base hospital at Palali. Four LTTE laid anti personnel
(AP) mines were also removed by troops, in clearing operations,
sources said.
Vavuniya:
In Vavuniya defences, SLA killed an LTTE terrorist in general
area Venkalacheddikulam, around 12.15.p.m. Earlier, a soldier
sustained injuries and was evacuated to general hospital
at Vavuniya following a confrontation with terrorists, around
5.40.a.m.
Separately,
security forces confronted an LTTE group killing four terrorists
at general area Pullippankayarkulama, at 2.20p.m, security
sources said. According to ground sources, a soldier was
killed during the gunfire exchange.
Later,
at the tensed defences at Periyapandivirichchan, another
soldier received wounds due to a mine explosion. Meanwhile,
advancing troops overran two LTTE bunkers in the area. Four
T-56 assault riffles were also recovered in subsequent search
operations conducted, at 3.15.p.m, security sources said.
At
around 2.p.m, yesterday (12) troops recovered two slain
male LTTE bodies along with two T-56 assault riffles, three
'arul' bombs and four hand grenades during a search operation
conducted at general area Vilathikulama.
Mannar:
In incidents reported from Mannar fronts, a soldier was
reported killed in LTTE small arms fire at general area
Narikkulama.
Welioya:
Meanwhile, a terrorist was reported killed while another
sustained wounds in clashes with troops ahead of the Welioya
defences, yesterday (12), security sources said. According
to military reports, a soldier was evacuated to the Padaviya
hospital due to wounds received following the confrontation.
Batticaloa:
During search and clearing operations conducted at general
area Thoppigala, troops recovered 13 claymore mines, 190
detonators and 8 hand grenades, security sources further
added.
