A
minor bomb explosion took place inside the Fort Railway
Station around 7.35 this evening (January 11). One person
suffered minor injuries in the explosion and was admitted
to the Colombo National Hospital. Hospital sources said
that the injured is only suffering from a shock state caused
by the explosion.
Police
said that the bomb was placed on the stairs of the sixth
platform. The explosion has caused minor damages to the
staircase. It is suspected that the bomb was taken to the
station as a small parcel.
A
senior defence observer told defence.lk that LTTE terrorists
may be behind the explosion. He said that the terrorists
are facing serious losses in the North and therefore they
would try to disturb the South as much as possible. It is
the time that all Sri Lankan citizens must be extra vigilant
and give the maximum support to the security forces members
to curb terrorists' activities, he added.
