Troops
forced into LTTE positions ahead of Parappakandal defences,
on Tuesday (January 08) at 4.30p.m, killing at least 19
terrorists including a female LTTE leader and wounding over
30 others, initial ground reports from Wanni said.
According
to intercepted LTTE communication, an LTTE female area leader
Sudarmalar and 18 terrorists were killed during the confrontations.
Ground sources confirm that several LTTE bunkers were destroyed
while troops overran LTTE positions ahead of Parappakandal,
Mannar.
The
advancing troops were assisted with heavy artillery and
multi barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) fire directed at LTTE
positions, security sources said. Over 30 terrorists were
wounded in the ground advance, forcing LTTE to flee with
soaring casualties, sources said.
Around
6.30p.m, troops repulsed an LTTE offensive attempt towards
the established defences at North of Parappakandal. Troops
are now consolidating the defences, ground sources report.
Meanwhile,
military said that one soldier was killed while five others
sustained injuries during the confrontations.
