Six stitches on Jayasuriya’s
jaw
After Sanath Jayasuriya
was forced to retire hurt after copping a heavy hit to the
head from Tim McDonald in the eighth over, Sri Lanka came
crashing back to earth with a seven-wicket loss to Tasmania
in their one-day tour match at Bellerive Oval on Saturday
(2).
Jayasuriya
was taken to hospital and cleared of serious injury, and
he is expected to play in Sri Lanka's opening one-day international
against India on Tuesday at the Gabba. He was struck when
trying to pull a MacDonald bouncer in the eighth over, left
the field for six stitches and later went for an x-ray.
After
winning by four wickets against the Prime Minister's XI
in Canberra on Wednesday, the visitors struggled from the
outset against Tasmania, known as the Tigers.
Skipper
Mahela Jayawardene top-scored with an attractive 51 from
59 balls, but was not well supported by his team-mates and
Sri Lanka only managed to reach a total of 183.
Brendan
Drew ripped through the tourists' batting order and finished
with career-best figures of five for 36.
Tim
Paine (54) and Michael Dighton (45) took the home side to
a winning position with a 91-run opening stand and the Tasmanians
cruised to the total in the 37th over. Kosela Kulasekara
