Troops claim 16 terrorists killed in yesterday's clashes in the Vavuniya and Welioya

Military reports indicate at least 16 LTTE terrorists killed and over 25 suffered injuries during the clashes that occurred on the Vavuniya and Welioya fronts along the Wanni Defence yesterday (February 6). During these clashes 4 soldiers suffered injuries and admitted to Vavuniya and Anuradhpura hospitals, reports further revealed.

On the Vavuniya front, troops conducting limited offensives ahead of Vavuniya defence line had several clashes with the LTTE terrorists.

At Periyapandichurichan, troops confronted with LTTE terrorists at two separate incidents during the day time yesterday. Ground troops have claimed that 4 terrorists were killed and 5 injured in these incidents.

At Vilattikulama, troops had three confrontations with LTTE terrorists during the day and claimed 8 terrorists were killed and 5 others were injured. Also, 3 soldiers sustained injuries in these incidents.

On the Welioya front, troops attacked LTTE bunkers in the Kokkuthuduvai area at three separate instances during the day. LTTE radio transmissions have confirmed that 2 terrorists were killed and 9 suffered injuries in these incidents.

Separately, troops had two confrontations with LTTE terrorists in the general area Andankulama with in the course of the day. LTTE radio transmissions have confirmed that 2 terrorists were killed and 2 wounded in these incidents. Also, one soldier sustained injuries during one of the incidents.
