set aside to purchase Maha harvest
Cabinet
approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Agriculture
Development and Agrarian Services for the purchase of
the Maha paddy harvests which would cost Rs.2000 million,
in order to prevent private dealers from making bulk purchases
and causing price hikes of rice, particularly the Samba
and Naadu varieties.
Official housing scheme on Keppetipola
Mawatha
Cabinet
approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Public
Administration and Home Affairs, Karu Jayasuriya, to award
the contract to construct official houses down Keppetipola
Mawatha to State Development and Design Corporation.
27 new post offices
Cabinet
approval was granted for a memorandum submitted by the
Acting Minister of Posts and Telecommunication, M.S. Sellasamy,
to entrust the construction of 27 nos of new post office
buildings to the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau
on a turnkey basis.
Southern
Expressway segment to be completed
Cabinet
approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Highways
and Road Development, Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, for the construction
and completion of the Southern Expressway from Kurundugaha
Sathapma to Godagama in Matara by 2010, obtaining the
labour of local contractors. The National Contractors’
Association of Sri Lanka (NCASL) has agreed to comply
with the request.
National platform for solid waste management
Cabinet
approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Environment
and Natural Resources, Patali Champika Ranawake for the
establishment of a national platform to facilitate solid
waste management. This memorandum was presented as a joint
paper together with the Minister of Local Government and
Provincial Councils. All solid waste management project
proposals would be handed over to this body accordingly.
Education
development fund for plantation community
Cabinet
approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Community
Development and Social Inequity Eradication, P. Chandrasekaran
to establish an education development fund for the plantation
community.
Amendments
approved to the Incorporation Order for overseas projects
Cabinet
approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Construction
and Engineering Services, Rajitha Senaratne, to introduce
amendments to the Incorporation Order to cover the undertaking
of overseas projects. The Ministry has been successful
in securing a foreign contract for the “Construction
of Villas’ in Doha, Qatar amounting to Rs.13,050m.
Under the present policy of rejuvenating state sector
organizations, the State Engineering Corporation is being
restructured and its operations streamlined to meet present
day challenges.
Regional
market for liquid milk to be promoted
Cabinet
approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Livestock
Development, R.M.C.B. Ratnayake, to promote a regional
market for liquid milk. A sum of Rs35m has been allocated
from the budget for the promotion of liquid milk.
