Society for Peace, Unity and Human
Rights for Sri Lanka (SPUR) had unreservedly condemned the
Tamil Tiger Terrorist’s barbaric acts in the past
week centered on killing innocent citizens, mostly Sinhalese
civilians. Spur has urged the President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda
Rajapakse to work with the armed forces commanders, the
clergy, other political parties and civic organizations
to unite the citizenry and focus on one single objective,
eliminating the LTTE terrorists.
The
gratitude that the LTTE has shown to the President for
presenting a political solution to the terrorist problem
is to unleash a week of carnage attacking unarmed innocent
civilians including Tamil children using a bus in the
vicinity of the Madhu church.
The
statement by Spur is given below:
Last
weeks LTTE’s barbarity includes:
1.
Attacking a bus carrying school children in the Buttala
area killing close to 40 people. Eye witnesses said that
most of the victims were shot at point blank range after
surviving the bus bomb
2.
Killing 10 innocent Sinhalese peasant farmers tilling
rice fields
3.
Hacking to death and burying 17 people in a mass grave
in the Kebilithigollawa area
4.
Killing 10 Tamil children by triggering a claymore mine
in the Madhu church area and then apportioning blame on
the Sri Lankan government on the same day that the head
of the Tamil Peace secretariat head urged international
intervention in Sri Lanka. Pigs will fly if this was not
a coincidence. This demonstrates the extent of LTTE’s
desperation, where they even kill their own children to
further their political objectives.
5.
Killing 20 Buddhist pilgrims on their way to Anuradapura
by blowing up their bus in Dambulla.
6.
Throwing a hand grenade at people visiting the Zoo critically
injuring 4 people; and
7.
Using a suicide bomber to kill 20 people and wound another
100 at the Colombo Fort railway station
The
civilian death count over the last week stands at over
100 with close to 150 people injured some permanently
disabled losing limbs. The international community is
obliged to condemn these acts unreservedly and put the
LTTE leadership on notice of the dire consequences of
these brutal acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing. The
fact that the LTTE fronts which collect funds in many
Western countries finance the civilian killing spree cannot
be ignored.
Only
the LTTE friendly NGO’s operating in Sri Lanka such
as the NPC, the CPA and bogus human rights organizations
would have a pervert sense of satisfaction counting the
mounting dead. They would erroneously believe that the
increasing deaths of civilians would drive the President
to submission, offering the LTTE an interim Government
in the North and East of Sri Lanka, leading eventually
to separatism.
It
is a pity that these anti-nationalists who maintain a
deadly silence when Sinhalese civilians are killed are
given disproportionate coverage when they utter gobbledygook
seeking peace talks with Tiger terrorists. Soon they will
come out with their pitifully stale line that “we
urge both parties to desist from violence and talk peace”.
It is gratifying to note that these foreign funded-anti
nationalist’s influence is limited to the cocktail
circuit in Colombo, and some English language media.
Let
there be no ambiguity.
The
International community’s commitment to national
and UN anti –terrorism and financing of terrorist
organizations resolutions are at stake. Leading western
democracies who urge Sri Lanka to present political solutions
to the terrorist problem must act against LTTE’s
unceasing waves of violence against unarmed civilians.
They must put the LTTE leadership on notice and point
out to them that they are fast running out of space where
they could hide in this world as crimes against humanity
has no impunity.
Those
countries such as Australia who are yet to ban the LTTE
must do so under the Australian Criminal Code Act 1995
immediately. The LTTE leadership, if they survive the
current military thrust of the Sri Lankan armed forces
would find locating a nation providing them sanctuary
in exile impossible, as the jurisdiction of the International
Criminal Court in The Hague covers every nook and cranny
in this world.
The
days of Prabhakaran and his henchmen who practice ethnic
cleansing and genocide are numbered. The International
community has a responsibility to act decisively to minimise
the carnage this megalomaniac can unleash before his ultimate
demise at the hands of Sri Lanka’s armed forces.
It is time to garrote the terrorists and embrace democrats.
