SLA troops surged into LTTE dominated
territory ahead of Mannar defences today (February 2) killing
eleven terrorists during confrontations, security sources
said.
Earlier,
in general area Pallaikuli troops engaged heavy mortar attacks
at an LTTE bunker defence at around 6.15.a.m. Following
subsequent search operations troops recovered 15 Arul bombs,
25 anti-personnel (AP) mines and 500 T-56 ammunitions.
Meanwhile,
a LTTE terrorist was reported killed in a SLA sniper attack
at Parappakandal at 8.20.a.m. Separately, SLA infantry units
at Parappakandal advanced into LTTE territory launching
intensified armour, artillery and mortar attacks today at
9.40.p.m.
According
to received military reports, four LTTE terrorists were
believed killed or wounded while, troops confirmed to have
overrun an LTTE bunker defence. "Our troops are holding
the captured LTTE bunker", an area military official
said. No casualties were caused to own forces, he further
added.
Meanwhile,
ten terrorists were killed during intense fighting erupted
between LTTE and troops in general area Vannakulama, at
2.10.p.m, Wanni military sources said.
Three
LTTE bunkers were also destroyed as SLA marched into LTTE
defence lines, the sources added. Separately, a soldier
was reported wounded in a confrontation at Vannakulama,
around 4.30.p.m, today.
Troops
recovered 109 AP mines, 17 hand grenades and a 10kg weighing
claymore mine during a subsequent search operation in the
area, security sources said.
