Bus bomb at Dambulla,20 killed
A bus bomb has exploded at Dambulla today at around 7.05 am. According to sources the explosion had taken place on bus no. CPNA25024 travelling from Kandy to A'pura, carrying passengers to a 'Pichcha mal' offering pooja at A'pura Ruwanweli Maha Seya. The explosion took place within the bus at the Dambulla town bus stand.
Army spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said that around 20 civilians have been killed and about 50 wounded. The injured have been admitted to Dambulla Teaching Hospital and others have been transfered to Matale and Kurunegala hospitals for emergency treatment. Further sources said that a majority of women and 6 men were among the dead.
Eyewitneses said to Lankaenews that the bus had been severely damaged and it's roof has been removed due to the blast.
This is the 3rd terrorist bus bomb attack on civilians since the last 16th of this month.
