At least 24 terrorists were killed and many reported wounded
in clashes between troops and LTTE yesterday (26) at Wanni
and Northern battle fronts, security sources said.
In
the Jaffna front at Muhamalai troops attacked and destroyed
and LTTE bunker defence killing a terrorist, at around 2
p.m. Three terrorists were also reported killed in SLA sniper
attacks in separate locations at general area Nagarkovil.
Meanwhile,
two soldiers have laid their lives during confrontations
with LTTE while 5 others were reported wounded from Muhamalai
and Nagarkovil areas.
According
to reports received from Vavuniya front, 15 terrorists were
killed in separate clashes at Karampikulama, Vilathikulama,
Kovilmoddai areas as troops further advanced into non-liberated
territory.
No
damages were caused to own troops, security sources said.
At
the Mannar front, troops destroyed an LTTE bunker defence
in general area Perankamam killing 3 terrorists, security
sources said. During subsequent search operations conducted
in the area troops recovered a slain LTTE body, a T-56 assault
riffle and a radio communication set, sources further added.
Reports
received also indicated that 7 terrorists were killed and
11 injured at Veppankulama area, though exact figures were
not available, as LTTE circuits experienced congestion during
the period, sources said. Meanwhile, intercepted enemy circuits
have also confirmed that many terrorists have gone missing
who were last observed deployed at battle fronts of Wanni
theatre. The turnover of fighting cadres in the fronts has
eased the military advance into Wanni heartland, defence
sources said.
At
the Welioya front, 2 soldiers were reported wounded in a
confrontation with LTTE ahead of Kokkuthudduval general
area yesterday, according to military reports. Meanwhile,
intercepted enemy transmissions also revealed that 2 terrorists
were killed during the confrontation.
In
general area Andankulama, a soldier sustained injuries due
to an AP mine explosion, security sources said.
