LTTE continues to suffers setbacks in the North

Military report said that 23 LTTE terrorists were killed and another 10 injured during clashes at the Northern and Wanni defences yesterday, February 19. Four army soldiers died while three others sustained injuries, according to military sources.

In the Jaffna front, one soldier was killed and another received injuries due to the explosion of a booby trap at Muhamalai around 9.30 a.m yesterday.

In the Vavuniya front, troops launched an attack targeting a group of LTTE terrorists in the general of area Vedamakulam at 4.15 pm. An LTTE cadre was killed in this incident.

Meanwhile 4 LTTE terrorists were killed when troops launched a pre-emptive attack targeting the enemy bunker line in the general area of Mullikulam around 12 noon. Troops also confronted a group of LTTE terrorists north of Mullikulam at 1.00 pm yesterday. LTTE radio transmission confirmed that two of their cadres were killed while 6 others received injuries due to this incident.

One soldier was killed and another two received injuries due to the explosion of an LTTE booby trap in the general area north of Mullaikulam around 4.30 pm yesterday. Casualties were evacuated to the General hospital Anuradhapura.

Police personnel on foot patrol in general area Sivapuram have opened fire when two LTTE cadres detected on suspicion were attempting to throw hand grenades towards police personnel around 1.00 pm yesterday. Two terrorists were killed in this incident and following list of items was found in their possession: micro pistols (2), hand grenades (3), pistol ammunition (35), pistol magazines (5), dog tags (2), mobile phones (2), cycle (1), cyanide capsules (1).

In the Mannar front, two terrorists were killed while four others were wounded when the troops launched an attack targeting the LTTE bunker line in the general area of Mantota around 11.30 a.m yesterday. Army snipers deployed at Adampan gunned down two LTTE terrorists in two separate incidents that took place and 9.45 am and 12.55 pm, according to military sources. Meanwhile, one soldier was killed in a confrontation in the general area of Mantota around 3.15 pm yesterday.

In the Welioya front, four LTTE terrorists were killed when the troops launched an attack targeting the LTTE bunker line in Kokkuthuduvai around 6.05 pm, while a similar type of attack was launched at Kaddattaddamalai around 10.35 am where 6 LTTE cadres perished.
