Military reports indicated that at least 28 terrorists
were killed and 9 wounded in confrontations with security
forces yesterday (18) at the Wanni and Northern defence
lines.
According
to reports, 3 soldiers have laid their lives while 16 others
were reported wounded.
In
the Jaffna front, a soldier was injured due to an anti-personnel
mine explosion at Muhamalai around 10.10p.m., and evacuated
to military base hospital at Palaly.
Meanwhile,
a terrorist was sniped and killed by security forces ahead
of Nagarkovil defences, at 4.40p.m., security sources said.
In
the Vavuniya front, 5 soldiers received injuries due to
a pressure mine explosion while travelling on a unicorn
vehicle along the Mahakachchakodiya- Pirappanmadu road,
at 6.20p.m., according to sources. Another soldier was also
reported wounded when an LTTE laid IED exploded at general
area Kannadi, at around 7.50a.m.
Meanwhile,
a terrorist was reported killed in a sniper attack at Kannadi,
security sources said. Two other terrorists were killed
during a SLA ambush at Sinnapantrichurichchan, at 10.15a.m.,
according to reports.
Troops
attacked a group of terrorists in general area Mullukulam
and confirmed 6 terrorists were killed, at 5.45p.m., security
sources said. Five terrorists were also killed and a soldier
wounded during clashes with LTTE at Kallikulama, at 6p.m.
Earlier,
at Periyapantirchurichchan troops overran an LTTE bunker
defence, recovered 1 hand grenade and a T-56 assault riffle
magazine, at 2.50p.m.
In
the Mannar front, a terrorist was reported killed in a SLA
sniper attack ahead of LTTe defences at Adampan, yesterday
at 12.10p.m.
In
the Welioya front, troops continued to advance into LTTE
defences killing at least 10 terrorists at general area
Andaankulama, security sources said. Nine other terrorists
were believed killed or seriously wounded in separate clashes
at Andankulama, according to sources. According to reports
3 soldiers have laid their lives while 7 others were wounded
in clashes at Andankulama defences.
At
Kokkuthuduwal two terrorists were reported killed and a
soldier injured during intermittent clashes between troops
and LTTE, security sources said.
