Security forces stepped-up multi-pronged attacks at LTTE
positions in Wanni and North inflicting heavy damages yesterday,
February 16, military report said. 49 LTTE terrorists were
killed while 20 others inured during the clashes erupted
right throughout the day, report further said. Two army
soldiers made their supreme sacrifice while 16 others received
injuries during yesterday's clashes.
In
the Jaffna theatre of battle, army snipers deployed at Muhamalai
confirmed that a terrorist was gunned down last evening.
Three
LTTE terrorists were killed when the troops ambushed an
LTTE movement in Muhamalai at 2.05 p.m yesterday.
Meanwhile,
troops advanced into LTTE defences at Vempotukerni and destroyed
three LTTE bunkers at 12.35 a.m yesterday. One terrorist
was killed while another two wounded due to the incident.
One GPS, one compass, one binocular, one hand grenade, one
pouch, three magazines and 90 ammunition uncovered in a
subsequent search operation, report further said.
Troops
advanced into LTTE defences destroyed LTTE bunker lines
at Muhamalai, Averikadu and Nagarkovil fronts yesterday.
12 LTTE terrorists were killed while 5 others were injured
due to these incidents. One army soldier made his supreme
sacrifice while three others received injuries, report further
said.
In
the Wanni theatre of battle, in Vavuniya front, an LTTE
terrorist was killed when the troops launched an attack
targeting a group of LTTE terrorists at 11.45 a.m in general
area Vedamakilam.
Army
snipers deployed at Periyapantrichurichchan and Kallikulam
confirmed that 4 LTTE terrorists were killed in two separate
incidents took place at 8.45 a.m and 11.00 a.m.
In
Periyapantrichurichchan, troops ambushed an LTTE movement
at 4.50 p.m and security forces believed that 11 LTTE terrorists
may either killed or critically wounded in this incident.
One soldier was also received injuries due to this attack.
In
two separate confrontations took place at Kallikilam and
Koilmoddai, ground troops confirmed that 8 terrorists were
killed and 2 others received injuries. One soldier was also
received injuries in this incident.
Troops
ambushed an LTTE movement in general area Koilmoddai, killing
8 terrorists. Four army soldiers also sustained injuries
due to the incident. Meanwhile, in another ambush 8 LTTE
terrorists were killed in general area Andankulam, report
further said.
Meanwhile,
one soldier was killed in a confrontation took place in
the Andankulam area around 4.30 p.m. Four other soldiers
deployed at Villattikulam and Periyapantrichurichchan received
injuries due to LTTE mortar fire last evening.
In
the Mannar front, army snipers deployed in general area
Narikkulam confirmed that 3 terrorists were gunned down
at 5.35 p.m yesterday.
Meanwhile,
two soldiers received injuries in a confrontation took place
at Periyanavettikulam at 10.30 a.m yesterday. The damages
to the LTTE are not yet known.
Meanwhile,
troops ambushed an LTTE movement at Wilgamwehera in the
Trincomalee area at 8.20 p.m yesterday. In a subsequent
search operation conducted in the area troops uncovered
a claymore mine, 1kg TNT, one pouch, one hand grenade and
50 ammunition along with a body of the slain LTTE cadre,
report further said.
Limited
