One-hundred-and-seventy Tamil police constables have been
recruited from the Eastern Province since the region was
liberated from the grip of the LTTE last year with the
Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police North and East
region and the Commandant of the Special Task Force Mahinda
Balasooriya taking the salute of the new police personnel
at a colourful parade at the Kalladi Police Training School
grounds yesterday (16).

Tamils are to be recruited for police duties from the
Eastern region and the youth have shown a great interest
in serving the police, according to sources. Among the
170 new Tamil police personnel 50 are Women Police Constables,
Batticaloa police sources said.
The
new batch passed out after four months of intensive training
in police duties and combat exercises, according to police
sources. This was the first passing out parade to be held
at the Kalladi Police Training School since it was set
up on October 8, 2007.
