170 Tamil PCs recruited for Eastern Province

17.2.2008

One-hundred-and-seventy Tamil police constables have been recruited from the Eastern Province since the region was liberated from the grip of the LTTE last year with the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police North and East region and the Commandant of the Special Task Force Mahinda Balasooriya taking the salute of the new police personnel at a colourful parade at the Kalladi Police Training School grounds yesterday (16).

More Tamils are to be recruited for police duties from the Eastern region and the youth have shown a great interest in serving the police, according to sources. Among the 170 new Tamil police personnel 50 are Women Police Constables, Batticaloa police sources said.

The new batch passed out after four months of intensive training in police duties and combat exercises, according to police sources. This was the first passing out parade to be held at the Kalladi Police Training School since it was set up on October 8, 2007.
