The President of the Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has arrived on a two-day state visit to Sri Lanka this afternoon.

The Maldivian President landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport at 1:20 p.m. local time. He was accompanied by his wife and a delegation of Maldivian state officials.
President Gayoom and the President Mahinda Rajapakse will hold bilateral talks during the visit. Sri Lanka is to honor Gayoom with the highest national award "Lanka Rathna" at a ceremony to be held here on tomorrow (13), Government officials said.
