LTTE continue to receive heavy losses: 37 terrorists killed, more than 30 injured

According to the military reports, 37 LTTE terrorists were killed and more than 30 terrorists injured in clashes erupted at Northern and Wanni defences yesterday, February 08. The report further said that 14 soldiers also received injuries in yesterday's clashes.

In Jaffna theatre of battle, incidents reports from the Muhamalai and Nagarkovil fronts yesterday.

Troops observed a LTTE movement and engaged artillery barrage around 10.00 p.m. at general area Muhamalai. LTTE transmission confirmed that an LTTE cadre received injuries due to the incident.

Army sniper deployed at Muhamalai front gunned down a terrorist ahead of defence line around 1.30 p.m. Meanwhile, snipers further confirmed that two more terrorists were gunned down around 10.20 a.m., report said.

Troops engaged mortar and Rocket Propeller Grenades targeting a group of LTTE terrorists in general area Muhamalai. The incident took place at 1.45 p.m. and troops confirmed an LTTE terrorist was killed due to the attack.

Separately, snipers deployed in Nagarkovil front gunned down terrorists around 6.00 p.m., report further said.

In Vavuniya front, snipers deployed at Periyapantrichurichchan have confirmed that three LTTE terrorists were killed in shooting incidents took place at 8.15 a.m. and 11.00 a.m.

Troops ambushed a group of LTTE terrorists at 10.25 a.m. in Sinnapantrichurichchan and eight terrorists were killed in this incident. No casualties reported to the own troops.

A pre-down attack was launched targeting LTTE bunkers at 2.00 p.m. in general area north of Kallaikulam. Ground troops confirmed that six LTTE terrorists were either killed or wounded and two bunkers were completely destroyed due to the attack.

Troops launched a mortar fire towards the suspicious LTTE hideout at general area Vilathikulam. The attack was launched at 2.10 p.m. and LTTE transmission confirmed that two of their cadres were killed in this incident.

Four army soldiers also received injuries in three incidents took place at Vilathikulam and Periyapantrichurichchan, report further said.

In Mannar front, army snipers deployed at Sirikulam area gunned down three LTTE terrorists in two separate shooting incidents took place at 12.10 p.m. and 6.05 p.m. Meanwhile, snipers deployed at Kallikulam killed two LTTE terrorists in shooting incidents took place at 11.10 a.m and 4.35 p.m., report said.

In a confrontation took place at 2.00 p.m in general area Nadunkandal, by intercepting the LTTE transmission it is revealed that three terrorists were killed while twenty others wounded due to the heavy fire power launched by the troops.

An LTTE pistol man shot and injured an army soldier at 2.55 p.m. in general area Eluthur while he was on picket duty. Casualty was evacuated to the Mannar hospital.

Meanwhile, another soldier received injuries due to LTTE mortar fire at 9.50 a.m. in general area Karpiththanmoddai.

In Weli-Oya front, troops launched three separate attacks targeting LTTE bunker lines in general area Kokkutuduvai. The confrontations took place at 10.00 a.m., 11.45 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. and three terrorists were killed while another three received injuries due to these attacks, reports said.

Two LTTE terrorists were killed when troops attacked at a group of LTTE terrorists at 11.20 a.m. in general area Andankulam. Meanwhile, eight terrorists were killed in a separate confrontations took place in same area at 11.45 a.m. Three soldiers also received injuries due to the incident.

Troops attacked at a group of terrorists at 4.50 p.m. in general area Janakapura and ground troops confirmed that two terrorists were killed in this attack.

Meanwhile, five army soldiers received injuries in two separate incidents took place at Kokkutuduvai and Janakapura, reports further stated.
