85 asylum seekers intercepted near Christmas Island off Western Australia, by the Australian navy supply ship HMAS, beleived to be from Sri Lanka.

The prime minister John Howard says they will not be allowed on the mainland & may be sent to Nauru Island. Meanwhile the federal opposition leader, Kevin Rudd says they would have to sent to Christmas Island or returned to where they came from.
