ROSHAN MAHANAMA
– Sri Lanka’s ICC Match Referee stopped over
in Melbourne on Monday 17th on his way to Hobart for the
third CHAPPELL-HADLEE cricket match and was guest of honour
at a lavish Christmas party at the home of Cathy and David
Cruse at Narre Warren.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation of Victoria were proud
to meet him again. Roshan was one of the first recipients
of a three month cricket scholarship when he played for
the Fitzroy-Doncaster Cricket Club. The late Bob Parish,
Edward Gray and Fred Van Buren of SLCFV were amongst the
Trustees who hosted Roshan and Gamini Perera ( who played
for the Prahran Cricket Club) many years ago. Roshan had
not played for Sri Lanka at that stage but then went on
to be Sri Lanka’s opening bat and magnificient cover
fielder.
Roshan and his wife Geeva and three girls have been frequent
visitors to Melbourne since then. He is much sought after
in cricketing circles the world over and should make an
excellent advisor to steer the fortunes of Sri Lanka cricket
in the years to come.
