Troops recover 1350 AP mines: intermittent clashes continue at Wanni and Northern defences

Troops recovered 1350 anti-personnel (AP) mines on December 29, while conducting a search operation at general area Inkiriyamadu, Batticaloa.

Meanwhile, two Police constables were reported wounded due to an LTTE hand grenade attack targeting a Police guard point near the HNB bank in Mannar, on Saturday at 8.30p.m. The injured Police constables were rushed to the general hospital at Mannar, security sources said.

In Manthottam area, Mannar, a soldier was injured due to the LTTE mortar fire. A soldier was killed around 11.10p.m, on 29 at general area Adampan, Mannar due to a grenade attack launched by the terrorists, MCNS reports.

Separately, at general areas Kaduruvittankulama and Vilayathikulama in Vavuinya, two soldiers sustained wounds when an LTTE set booby trap and an AP mine exploded, military sources said.

Three LTTE terrorists were killed and similar numbers injured yesterday in clashes at Kilali defences MCNS further stated, citing military situation reports. Five soldiers were also reported injured in the incident, at 1.35p.m, the sources said.
