Defence Secretary visits Wanni as troops' step-up attacks at LTTE

As the Security Forces in Wanni emerge victorious in many battles against LTTE, Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka flew to Vavuniya Saturday (29) morning to review the latest development of the security situation in Wanni.

Commander Security Forces Headquarters (SFHQ-W) Major General Jagath Jayasuriya, after receiving the Secretary Defence and retinue on their arrival, accompanied them to the SFHQ Auditorium where Senior ground commanders in Wanni awaited their presence. Having listened to the briefings by SF-W Commander and other Senior Officers about security situation in respective areas, further instructions were issued by visiting Secretary Defence and Military Chiefs.

A section of Senior Officers of the Army Headquarters also joined the visit.
