Over dozen terrorists killed in yesterday's clashes as Troops hold out at Northern Defences

The Media Center for National Security (MCNS) said that at least 16 LTTE cadres were killed and two others wounded during yesterday's (December 20) clashes erupted at Jaffna and Wanni defences. Also, 6 soldiers sustained injuries and are now being undergoing medical treatments at military hospitals at Anuradhapura and Palaly.

In the Wanni theatre of battle, troops had several confrontations with LTTE cadres on Welioya and Vavuniya fronts during daytime on Thursday.

At Thalavilakulama, on the Vavuniya front, troops confronted with LTTE cadres at two occasions killing three LTTE cadres. According to the MCNS, two out of the three LTTE cadres were killed at 2.45p.m while the other one was killed around 4.40 on the same day evening. Further, troops recovered one T-56 riffle during the subsequent search in the area, the MCNS added.

Meanwhile, on the same front two soldiers suffered injuries in a confrontation took place at Kandaperiyakulama around 1.45.p.m. The injured were admitted to the Anuradhapura military hospital.

On the Welioya front, troops detected and attacked a group of LTTE cadres moving towards the Ethawetunuwewa area around 1.30.p.m. The MCNS said that two female LTTE cadres were killed and another was injured in the incident.

Earlier, The MCNS reported that 11 LTTE cadres were killed and another injured in five separate incidents between SL army soldiers and LTTE terrorists at Jaffna and Wanni defences yesterday (December 20).

Meanwhile, on information provided by a civilian, troops uncovered 25 bags of cement from Kaattapalliya area around 10.00 p.m. on the same day. The bags were suspected to be transported to Wanni uncleared areas for the use of LTTE .
