11 LTTE cadres killed in clashes with troops in Mannar and Vavuniya

MANNAR/VAVUNIYA: Pre-emptive strikes by troops in the MANNAR and VAVUNIYA fronts have left at least 11 LTTE cadres dead since this morning (17), the Army said.

Five LTTE cadres perished when troops fiercely engaged a group of LTTE cadres in areas north of UIYLANKULAM, MANNAR around 9.30 a.m. today. According to intercepted Tiger communication, five more LTTE cadres had sustained injuries in retaliatory fire, ground troops confirmed.

Meanwhile in ADAMPAN, North West of UIYLANKULAM a soldier sustained injuries in a confrontation with the LTTE that erupted around 9.35 a.m. in the morning, the Army said.

In PARAPPAKANDAL, further inland of MANNAR troops confronted a group of LTTE cadres around 3.00 p.m. in the afternoon. One tiger cadre was killed in clashes with troops, military sources said.

In the VAVUNIYA front, troops clashed with the LTTE in the MANTHAI NARIKKULAM area around 11.30 a.m. Five LTTE cadres were reported killed and another four injured in retaliatory strikes. Tiger communication channels have confirmed casualties, ground troops said. Two soldiers sustained injuries in the clash at MANTHAI, NARRIKKULAM.
