Terrorist losses continued to soar
at rates during the past few days following tactical military
pursuit at LTTE bunker lines and offensive positions, said
security sources.
Latest
reports said that, at least eight terrorists were killed
and dozen others wounded during intermittent clashes at
Northern and Wanni defences, yesterday (December 15).
Jaffna:
Troops
while conducting observation patrols at the Muhamalai defence
lines directed small arms fire and mortar attacks, seriously
wounding four terrorists, at 5.20a.m, security sources said.
Meanwhile,
at Nagarkovil FDLs security forces shot dead an LTTE infiltrator
while attempting to breach the defences, at 4.30p.m. SLA
sources added. Later, LTTE transmission confirmed that a
terrorist named Isaamudan alias Nadarasa Suriyaprakash was
killed during the confrontation.
Vavuniya:
Two
SLA soldiers were injured following anti-personnel (AP)
mine explosions at general areas at Thampanai and Periyathmapanai,
Vavuniya, on Saturday(15) morning, security sources said.
Elsewhere,
at general areas at Vilatthikulam and Periyakulam troops
recovered 200 AP mines during search operations conducted.
Mannar:
Two
terrorists were killed and four seriously injured when troops
ambushed an LTTE offensive movement yesterday (15) along
the Wanni defences at Kattaiamadapan, around 2.p.m.
During
subsequent search operations conducted, troops recovered
02 x T-56 assault riffles, security sources said. According
to reports, a soldier was injured and admitted to general
hospital in Mannar.
Earlier,
at general area Pallankulam at 7.40a.m, a soldier was killed
in an LTTE attack, security sources said. Troops retaliated
effectively assisted with artillery fire towards identified
LTTE positions. Later, intercepted LTTE communication revealed
that a terrorist was killed and another seriously wounded
during the incident.
Separately,
at general area Parappakandal security forces neutralized
an LTTE offensive bid killing three terrorists, at 4.30p.m,
Wanni military sources said.
Batticaloa:
Special
Task Force (STF) personnel while conducting a route clearing
operation at general area Sathurukondan, recovered a claymore
mine yesterday (15) at 7.30a.m.
An
electrical detonator, a remote controller and a 9V battery
were among the other items recovered, Police reported.
