Ace
paceman Chaminda Vaas became the fourth bowler in ODIs cricket
to claim his 400th wicket during the fourth One-Day International
against India at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, yesterday.
Needing
to win the match, to keep their chances in the series alive,
captain Mahela Jayawardene lost his sixth straight toss
of the tour and was asked to field by opposing captain Mahendra
Singh Dhoni.
Gautam
Gambhir and Virat Kohli added 44 runs for the first wicket
before Nuwan Kulasekara provided the breakthrough by dismissing
Gambhir for 54 and three overs later Vaas claimed the milestone
when he had Yuvraj Singh caught by Jayawardene at short
mid wicket without scoring.
Vaas
is the fourth bowler to claim 400 wickets in ODIs, after
Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Muttiah Muralitharan. He already
has over 300 wickets in Tests.
Vaas
claimed the wicket in his seventh over in his 323rd game.
Thilan
Tushara Mirando came onto replace Kulasekara and picked
up the wicket of Kohli after the batsman had cracked his
maiden half-century.
At
the drinks break, India had moved to 154 for three in 32
overs with Suresh Raina on 46 and Dhoni on 31.
