Two police officials of the Ministerial Security Division
were taken into custody in regard of stealing Rs. 11,500
at gunpoint from a restaurant manager and damaging the restaurant
property.

media spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Ranjith
Gunasekara said that the two police officials were security
officers of Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe and
Kurunegala district United National Party (UNP) MP Akhila
Viraj Kariyawasam.
Colombo
Crime Division arrested these two police officers in regard
of the incident and they were remanded until August 15
by courts. They are to be produced for an identification
parade on that day.
They were in a six member group that went to a restaurant
in Wasala Road, Dehiwala on July 29 to consume food. When
a clash erupted between the music band and the restaurant
staff, the suspects meddled stating that they were 'Gotabhaya's
People' and stole Rs. 11,500 at gunpoint from the restaurant
manager. Police arrested the suspected group travelled
in with two civilians. SSP Gunasekara said that the white
van had been rented from a cab service.
