According to the finalized military report received from
the battle front said that 46 terrorists were killed and
16 others suffered injuries due to the yesterday's, 27
August, clashes ensued in Mullaithivu, Kilinochchi, Welioya
and Vavuniya fronts. Four more terrorists reportedly either
killed or wounded. Five soldiers have laid their lives
for defending the motherland while another 34 suffered
injuries, the report added.
Troops of 57 Division operating in western borders of
the Mullaittivu district gunned down an LTTE terrorist
in general area south of Thunukkai. One soldier suffered
injuries due to an AP mine explosion occurred in general
area Alankulam.
Fierce gun battle ensued between troops of Task Force
1, advancing further northwards along the Mannar- Pooneryn
road (A-32) running along the northwestern coastal belt
of the Island, and the LTTE terrorists in Kilinochchi
district. By intercepting LTTE radio communication channels
it is revealed that 32 terrorists were killed during this
battle. Four soldiers have made their utmost sacrifices
for defending the motherland while 31 suffered injuries.
Meanwhile, Task Force 2 had several confrontations with
LTTE terrorists in general area Palamoddai in Vavuniya
district killing 7 LTTE terrorists and injuring 12 others.
One soldier was killed and another suffered injuries exploding
anti-personnel mines in the same area.
Troops of 59 Division advancing along the west of the
Nayaru lagoon heading towards the Mullaittivu town situated
on the Eastern border of the Mullaittivu district. 6 terrorists
were killed and 4 others suffered injuries in several
confrontations took place in general area Andankulam.
Four more terrorists were reportedly either killed or
wounded, the report added. One soldier also sustained
injuries due to these clashes.
Separately, 118 anti-personnel mines have been unearthed
by the troops engaged in mine clearing operations in general
area Andankulam.
