Susanthika Jayasinghe squeezed through into the semi-finals of the women's 200m event at the Beijing Olympics with a timing of 22.94 seconds which earned her the 3rd place in the Second Heat.

Rogaya Al-Gassra of Bahrain won the heat (22.79secs), followed by Muriel Hurtis-Houairi of France (22.89 secs) and Susanthika, Sri Lanka's only female Olympic medal winner.

Susanthika's timing was the 11th best of the 12 who qualified for the semi-finals and therefore will have to come up with a much better performance if she is to proceed to the finals.

The semi-finals will be worked out today (August 20).
