In
response to the expose made by ex-LTTE leader Vinayagamurthi
Muralitharan alias Karuna who stated that the LTTE might
use its chemical weapons in decisive clashes in future,
the Army Spokesman said that Army intelligence had never
reported that the LTTE had chemical warfare capabilities.
In
another clarification sought from Karuna Amman, he said
that he mentioned not about bio chemicals but about chemical
weapons made using Ammonium Nitrate. He said that the
LTTE successfully tested such weapons and they have not
been used so far.
He
made these comments in an interview with journalist Ramesh
Warallagama.
A
chemical expert said to 'Lanka-e-News' that the terrorist
organizations in the world are likely to use Ammonium
Nitrate for making chemical weapons since they can be
easily collected since they are in fertilizer. He said
that Ammonium Nitrate mixed with fuel oil can cause massive
explosions. For instance, 500 Kg of ANFO (or AN/FO, for
ammonium nitrate / fuel oil) could blast a huge building,
he said adding that Al-Qaida had spread this technology.
Karuna Amman says that the sections of chemical warfare,
Sam missiles and long range deployments are directly under
Prabakaran. LTTE possesses Sam 5,7 and 11 missiles. Although
they cannot be used to attack Mig and Kfir aircrafts,
helicopters can be attacked with them.
Karuna
Amman who was leading LTTE military wing for two decades
rejects the popular idea of an internal conflict behind
the killing of popular military leaders Denzil Kobbekaduwa
and Wijaya Wimalarathna. He assured that the two leaders
were killed by LTTE. He added that the LTTE also had respect
on these leaders who led the war cleverly.
