15 LTTE terrorists killed, 13 wounded in Wanni clashes

At least 15 LTTE terrorists have been killed and 13 others wounded during confrontations at the Wanni battle theatre on Monday (August 18), according to finalized military reports received. Heavy fighting continued at the Vavuniya-Mullaittivu battlefront as troops of the 57 Division forced into LTTE territory killing 7 terrorists and injuring 5 others security sources said. The fighting was reported from general areas at Vannerikkulama and Alyamperumal, according to reports.

Also, a soldier sustained injuries due to an anti-personnel (AP) mine explosion in general area Vannerikkulam, sources said. Meanwhile, 2 LTTE terrorists were killed in general area Navathkulama while 2 others were reported killed in a separate confrontation with troops at Palaimoddai general area.

Intermittent clashes were also reported between troops and LTTE at the Eastern frontier of the Wanni battlefront at Nachchikudha and Vannarikkulam in Kilinochchi yesterday. Military said 7 LTTE terrorists were killed and 4 soldiers wounded during the confrontations.

On the Welioya battlefront troops claimed killing a terrorist and injuring 8 others on Monday. 8 terrorists were also believed either killed or seriously wounded in the clashes reported from general area Andankulam. A soldier has laid his life and another injured during the skirmishes ensued with LTTE, sources said. Meanwhile, troops have also removed 186 AP mines and 18 IEDs during search operations conducted in the area.

At the Jaffna theater of battle, 3 soldiers have laid their lives in addition to 4 others ho were reported wounded during separate confrontations with LTTE at Muhamalai and Nagarkovil defences.
