reports arriving from the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting
of the eight SAARC nations currently held at the BMICH in
Colombo indicate that 'terrorism' will be a main focus of
this year's summit as several SAARC nations including India,
Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have experienced some
of the deadliest terrorists attack in the recent past.
Other
key issues the officials are expected to take up include
food security, energy crisis, and climate change as highly
important matters that should be addressed immediately by
the SAARC nations.
Foreign
Ministers participating at the 30th session of the Council
of Ministers have expressed positive expectations from the
summit.
"I
have very positive expectations from the summit and it will
be a successful summit," said Pakistan Foreign Minister
Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
Qureshi
also confirmed that he will be meeting his Indian counterpart
Pranab Mukherjee on the sidelines of the summit, and both
would be reviewing the current state of bilateral relations.
Bangladesh
Foreign Minister Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhary concurred that
"it will be an outstanding summit" and expressed
confidence that the delegated we will be able to deliver
for the people of SAARC nations.
