Sri Lanka Air Force MI-24 helicopters raided an LTTE's gathering point in general area Nachchikuda in Kilinochchi district this afternoon, 17 August.

According to the Air Force sources the air attack launched around 2.30 p.m in support of the ground troops of Task Force 1 advancing along the Mannar - Poonaryn A-32 main road.

The defeated terrorists fled with fallen of Vellankulam, the last LTTE stronghold in Mannar District, are now reorganizing and launching attacks at security forces to delay their offensive march.

The Air Force confirmed that the target was hit accurately.
