Security forces continued multi-pronged offensives at Wanni and Northern battle theaters yesterday (August 15) killing 19 LTTE terrorists while injuring 13 others according to finalized military reports received.

According to military, terrorists suffered a heavy toll of casualties during fighting erupted at the consolidated defence lines at the Vavuniya- Mullaittiuvu front, in coordinates at Mallavi, Thunukkai, Palaimoddai and Manniyankulama. 9 LTTE terrorists were killed and 11 others injured during the confrontations as troops inched forward despite heavy resistance from LTTE, reports stated. Also, troops have recovered an LTTE body, a T-56 assault riffle and 3 hand grenades during a search operation conducted at general area Southeast of Manniyankulama, following a confrontation with a group of terrorists at around 2p.m. Meanwhile, 9 soldiers also had received injures during the skirmishes, reports further stated.

2 other LTTE bodies were found by troops while conducting a search operation in general area Palaimoddai, along with a T-56 assault riffle and a radio communication set. According to reports, 7 LTTE terrorists were killed and 8 wounded in separate confrontations with troops of the Task force- 2 now operating at Palaimoddai. 5 soldiers received injuries in addition to LTTE fatalities sources further added.

Meanwhile, troops had removed 40 anti-personnel mines (AP) and 8x 81mm mortars traps in general area Addaruttakulam. Further, 85 AP mines were found and removed by security forces operation in general area Sinna Alyamperumal at the battlefront also including 9 electrical AP mines, a claymore mine and 3 IEDs.

Meanwhile, the Vavuniya Police acting on civilian information received recovered 3 claymore mines and 4 hand grenades in general area Poonthoddam, at 11.30a.m.

According to security reports, 2 LTTE terrorists were killed sniped in general area Nachchikuda, while troops confirmed killing 4 LTTE terrorists separately during an assault launched at an LTTE bunker defence in the same area at around 3.10p.m., Friday. A soldier also had received injuries in the confrontation, military said.

At the Welioya battlefront at the eastern frontier, security forces mounted successive assaults at identified LTTE strong points as troops confirmed killing 2 terrorists and injuring 3 others while 14 other were believed either killed or seriously wounded. According to military clashes erupted ahead of Kokkuthuduvai and Andankulama defence lines. 4 soldiers also received injuries in the clashes, sources further said. Separately, in general area Andankulam troops recovered 357AP mines and 46 IEDs laid by fleeing terrorists.

Meanwhile, the Police at Sampathnuwara at Janakapura found an 81mm mortar trapping, an improvised grenade cup and 2 pen-torch batteries during a search operation conducted on civilian information received.

At Trincomalee in general area Erakkandi, Naval troops yesterday morning at 8, found following warlike items in a search operation conducted subsequent to an information received from a civilian source.

Also, at the Northern battlefront at Kilali an LTTE terrorist was confirmed killed sniped, while military reported 2 soldiers injured during a separate confrontation with LTTE in general area Nagarkovil at 1p.m, on Friday.
