School children from Welikanda on a visit Colombo

A group of 200 students from Welikanda, a conflict affected area of the Polonnaruwa district, get an opportunity for a sight-seeing in Colombo, commencing today (21). They are arriving in Colombo this evening and on arrival they will be welcomed at the Army Camp at Panagoda.

The group consists of 150 sinhala students, 39 Muslim students, 20 Tamil students, their parents and 12 teachers.

General Officer Commanding of the 23rd Division Major General Daya Rathnayaka speaking to the Government Official Website stated that this is the first visit to Colombo for some these students.

The students having left the 23rd division in Welikanda this morning are scheduled to reach Panagoda this evening. The Officers and Soldiers of the Panagoda Army camp have prepared a special musical show and a cultural show tonight, especially for these students.

They will be also taken to enjoy a day at ‘Leisure World’ at Awissawella tomorrow and they will leave to Welikanda tomorrow evening.

These students represent the Singhapura Dhamma School, Kandakaduwa Dhamma school, Welikanda school, Ruhunuketha School, Kadawathamaduwa Dhamma school, Kudapokuna Tamil School, Kudapokuna Muslim school, Nawasenapura Muslim School and Arunapura Vidyalaya of the Welikanda Divisional Secretariat
