French Court rules out bail for 14 LTTE suspects

The Appeals for bail for fourteen LTTE suspects arrested in France have been ruled out by the French court claiming that the charges against them are of serious nature.
According to web based media sources, the fourteen LTTE suspects have been identified as key personages in conducting LTTE activities in France.


Upon the rejection of bails the French court has decided to extend the period of detention to all the fourteen LTTE suspects. In that regard the suspects are to be kept in detention for a further period of four months till the first week of December 2007

On the other hand Sous-direction Anti Terroriste (SDAT), the prime counter terrorism agency in France, have taken steps to frame charges against the suspects and if convicted they will be sentenced of 10 years maximum period of jail, according to the French law, further revealed the web based news stories.

Meanwhile, the LTTE is said to have reached a position where they are unable to bear the hindering of their activities in France and have initiated various propaganda campaigns in order to influence the French authorities, portraying that the arrested carders are not members of LTTE and they were only engaged in promoting welfare and well-being of Tamils in North and East areas of Sri Lanka.

Subsequent to that, some local pro- LTTE activists are trying to revamp the LTTE network in France through organizing a protest rally in coordination with LTTE front organizations in Europe. The protest is scheduled to be held in Paris in early September.

However, according to the reports from French authorities, these protests are unlike to have any brunt on the charges against the LTTE or the LTTE suspects hence the cruel intentions behind the LTTE activities have been identified by the European community.
The names and details of those LTTE suspects held by the police since their seizure on 1st April 2007 are as follows:

1. Nadarajah Mathintharan alias Reagan alias Parithi – from Kayts,
2. Aravinthan Thureswamy alias Metha – From Chavakachcheri
3. Thuraisamy Jeyamoorthy alias Jeya or Sinna Jeya – From Jaffna
4. Balasingham Kantharuban alias Ruban - From Nedunkulam
5. Kandasamy Umakaran alias Karan – From Pungudutivu
6. Mahalingam Jesuthas alias Venthan – From Vavuniya
7. Sellackandu Ravikulan – From Kopay
8. Kandiah Mohanthas – From Uduvil
9. Jesuthasan Paul Newman alias Kathir – From Jaffna
10. Sinnathamby Suthakaran – From Chavakachcheri
11. Rajalingam Murugananthan – From Jaffna
12. Puthiyan Thayalan alias Thaya – From Puttur
13. Srikanthan Pratheepan – From Vidattaltivu
14. Markandu Jeyabalasingham alias Jeyabal – From Jaffna
