The
Appeals for bail for fourteen LTTE suspects arrested in France
have been ruled out by the French court claiming that the charges
against them are of serious nature.
According to web based media sources, the fourteen LTTE suspects
have been identified as key personages in conducting LTTE activities
in France.
Upon the rejection of bails the French court has decided to extend
the period of detention to all the fourteen LTTE suspects. In
that regard the suspects are to be kept in detention for a further
period of four months till the first week of December 2007
On
the other hand Sous-direction Anti Terroriste (SDAT), the prime
counter terrorism agency in France, have taken steps to frame
charges against the suspects and if convicted they will be sentenced
of 10 years maximum period of jail, according to the French law,
further revealed the web based news stories.
Meanwhile,
the LTTE is said to have reached a position where they are unable
to bear the hindering of their activities in France and have initiated
various propaganda campaigns in order to influence the French
authorities, portraying that the arrested carders are not members
of LTTE and they were only engaged in promoting welfare and well-being
of Tamils in North and East areas of Sri Lanka.
Subsequent
to that, some local pro- LTTE activists are trying to revamp the
LTTE network in France through organizing a protest rally in coordination
with LTTE front organizations in Europe. The protest is scheduled
to be held in Paris in early September.
However,
according to the reports from French authorities, these protests
are unlike to have any brunt on the charges against the LTTE or
the LTTE suspects hence the cruel intentions behind the LTTE activities
have been identified by the European community.
