Military
reports received from Northern battlefronts indicate that
terrorists numbering 17 were killed and many more suffered
injuries during the clashes between Sri Lanka Army and LTTE
terrorists yesterday (April 7).
In
the Jaffna theatre of operations, military confirmed the
snipers deployed along the Nagarkovil frontline last afternoon
killed one terrorist. In addition, the sources revealed,
at least 3 terrorists were either killed or wounded when
troops launched an attack at a group of terrorists observed
beyond the Muhamalai frontline on the same day afternoon.
In
the Wanni theatre of operations, troops continued their
onslaught at LTTE dens in Mannar, Vavuniya and Mulaithiuvu
districts during the daytime yesterday and claimed at least
16 terrorists were killed.
On
the Vavuniya battlefront, troops had clashes with terrorists
at 3 separate occasions killing 10 terrorists.
At
Palampiddi troops sprang an ambush at a group of terrorists
around 1.45 pm. Radio transmissions among terrorists elements
revealed that 4 terrorists were killed in this incident.
Troops during the subsequent search found 2 T-56 riffles,
1 hand grenade and 1 radio communication set.
In
a similar attack at Chinnavittu around 9.40 am, troops citing
overheard radio transmissions claimed 2 terrorists were
killed and another injured. Also, at another ambush carried
out in the general Chennamaniattu Aru around 5.45 pm , ground
sources claimed that 4 terrorists were killed .
Meanwhile
2 soldiers suffered injuries due anti personnel mine explosions
occurred in Chinnavittu and Vilattikulama areas during the
day. On the Walioya front, troops had several clashes in
the North of Janakapura and North of Kiri Ibbanwawa areas
and confirmed citing LTTE radio transmission that 3 terrorists
were killed and 8 others wounded. In addition, ground troops
reported that 16 other terrorists were killed or wounded
during separate clashes. One soldier was killed and 3 others
suffered injuries during the same clashes.
On
the Mannar front, snipers deployed in Thirukethiswaram and
Karampaikulama areas claimed that 3 terrorists were killed
during the day. Meanwhile, a soldier was killed during the
confrontation with LTTE last morning in general area.
