Speaker adjourns Parliament three times amid continuous disruption
8.4.2008

Chaos prevailed in Parliament today for the most part with the Opposition protesting the appointment of Acting Parliamentary Secreetary, Dhammika Kithulgoda. The United National Party charged that the appointment was not in order since Kithulgoda also held the post of Secretary, Constitutional Council.
However, the Speaker, W.J.M. Lokubandara determined that the appointment did not violate any regulation.

UNP MPs continued to disrupt proceedings, including a special vote of appreciation for the former Parliamentary Secretary, Priyani Wijesekera.

The Speaker was forced to adjourn proceedings on three occasions.

Earlier a special statement was made by JVP Parliamentarian and until recently the leader of the party's parliamentary group, Wimal Weerawansa, where he responded to various allegations and speculations appearing in certain media regarding his status within the party.
